Mailing lists are one of the best ways to get more information with the least amount of effort and also get more people involved. Remember there are a lot of others in your "tree" and many are doing the same thing you are right now - trying to find family info. Everyone on the list "shares" data with everyone else. One email out goes to everyone on the list. You can also converse with a single member if you choose. Why duplicate efforts others in your family have already made? Keep in mind that this "share" concept is expected to work for others as well, so please contribute to their efforts when you can. Joining a list is fairly easy! Click on a link below and follow the instructions. Select which lists to join on the basis of family name (good starting point), geographical coverage (ie. country, state, county, or city), nationality or ethnic background, or religious affiliation. I do recommend checking your email frequently and moving emails to your hard drive if your email program supports this function. Useage can easily fill your Inbox to your limits. Also, if you should finish your research or find that a particular list is not for your needs, don't forget to "unsubscribe." Otherwise, you will receive these mails for the rest of your life, until the server dies, or time ends. Even if you close out your email account the server will send out your email. This on a larger scale is part of what slows down the internet.
